Hole in the Wall | Austin, TX
Sep 22, 2009 - By far one of the most fun bars I've been to in Austin. Throughout the day you'll see students enjoying bar food, drinking cheap local drafts, studying!!! In a bar?!?! That's right, hole is located directly across from UT campus, and is infamous for it's relaxed atmosphere and amazing music playing everynight. I consider it a "mini-Antones", as this is one of the few places where you'll pay less than five bucks (if you have to pay at all) to see some of the best bluegrass, honky tonk, indie-rock, and even progressive metal bands that Austin has to offer. Tuesday nights cater to the East Cameron boys with bands like "Bankrupt and the Borrowers" or "The Bread" blasting your ears full of amazing guitar, and offering up 3 dollar whiskey shots of Bullet! I'll take that for sure!
Creekside Lounge | Austin, TX
Sep 22, 2009 - Creekside lounge has many different channels through it's tunnel/maze set up. There are two back patio's connecting alongside a gorgeous creekbank along 7th and red river. With a newly built heightened deck and a seperate fenced in concrete patio facing the street, Creekside can have two dj's simultaneously pumping beats any night of the week. Inside, there are two main entrances, one with a more metal/divey feeling, and the other an upscale retro atmosphere. Both bars offer cheap bear and strong shots, and for some reason the most attractive people in austin tend to flock here. Maybe it's all the kids who were tired of pushing through the pricey beauty bar rising to the occassion across the street, or maybe I just love this place. YOU WILL GET LAID.
Nasty's | Austin, TX
Sep 22, 2009 - Nasty's is a dark bar with two pool tables and a small/intimate feel to it. This place is the "efficiancy apartment" of dive bars. One wednesday a month is set aside for Trainwreck explicit standup comedy, and the other nights are dedicated to catering to the religious Nasty's patron. This includes football games, impromptu outdoor poker players (on the smallest deck you can imagine), and billiards fanatics alike. It is my understanding that bands perform here, however I have yet to see one. The beer prices are typical drag fees of 2 dollars for a tall PBR, and there is an extensive margarita selection. After paying 6 dollars for a purple frozen marg, I felt like an undrunk and unhappy grimace. This is definately a beer bar, placed in Austin for those of us who are agoraphobic and Pabst fans.
Mugshots | Austin, TX
Sep 11, 2009 - Mugshots, though blatantly plopped along a busy intersection along 7th and Red River, seems tucked away from the rest of sixth street. The atmosphere is dark, a great place to go if you don't want to necessarily "see" the person you're courting. There is a fun photo booth as one enters, (fun for drunken shennanigans), a giant beer selection with very attentive bartenders. Oddly enough, the employees actually seem happy to get your drink! Prices are nice and cheap (well liquors starting at two dollars!), and a REAL jukebox with great hair metal and alternative music. There is one billiard room with a pool table tucked away and a dark room with booths for snuggle time! If you're a smoker, the patio is breezy and packed, with plenty of room to sit and enjoy your 2 dollar PBR tallboys! Highly recommend checking it out on a Thursday or friday night.
