This north Austin jewel is a dive bar junkie's dream and fortunately, still a hidden secret. The exterior may look shabby and rundown, something I would hope the owners would work on, but once you enter, all fears and worries slip away. It is dark and small, no windows or patio doors, with blinking Christmas lights and antique beer signs decorating the walls and ceilings. There are two pool tables, which are both free on Saturday nights and only 50 cents regularly, an antique shuffleboard table and 3 dart boards. The jukebox is the real gem of the place, playing only the best of old country on actual CDs, instead of the usual internet jukeboxes. The patrons are regulars, guys who have been coming to the bar since it opened and who are your regular working class type. They may look rugged and mean, but they are some of the most genuine, fun and friendly people you'll meet. The beer is cheap, everything is $2.50, with the exception of Shiner, Dos XX and Smirnoff which run $3.00 and Guiness which runs $3.50. The best part about this bar: you can bring in your own liquor and buy set-ups of soda, red bull, juice and margarita mix; a true drawing point for the younger generation. It is a true honky-tonk bar that catches the heart of anyone who enters. This is definitely not a bar to be missed and although the hours are shorter (12pm-12am Sun-Fri and 12pm-1am Sat), it has great potential to become your new favorite hangout. (over 2 years ago)
